Marc Ciora’s passion for music and film runs deep. Over years of collecting he’s amassed a stockpile of CDs and DVDs, and with the recent opening of Music Magick is eager to share his collection. “I love music and I love movies,” Ciora said Wednesday, surrounded by packed shelves as he stood in his new shop on Main Street. Ciora opened his first music store around 30 years ago in NorthProvidence, where he stayed in business for some 15 years. Ciora had cultivated a dedicated clientele, but as shops like his began to shutter as file sharing and online streaming became prevalent, so did the original Music Magick. “I started teaching, but that wasn’t really a passion,” Ciora said, kids’ movies lining the shelf behind him. “I really enjoyed working with the public.” Ciora was still selling CDs and DVDs at various flea markets and at a co-op in Smithfield, and all the while continued to add to his collection. “It was all sitting in storage,” he recalled, “and I thought, why not open a store again?” Then the co-op stopped selling CDs and DVDs. And when the storage facility where Ciora had kept everything closed down, leaving him without a place to stow the boxes and boxes of titles that had made their way into his possession, he decided it was time. Originally from West Warwick — he graduated from the high school in 1982 — Ciora is excited to have opened the doors to the new Music Magick in his hometown. “I’m happy that I’m here,” said Ciora, who moved back to West Warwick around eight years ago after living for some time in Providence and then North Kingstown. “I like this town.” From Christian music to rhythm and blues, classical to classic rock, Ciora’s CD inventory runs the gamut. “We’ve got Dean Martin, Sinatra,” he said, “then we have Nine Inch Nails, and Stone Temple Pilots, and Red Hot Chili Peppers, and the Doors, James Taylor — it’s all over the place.” Ciora is partial to U2, although his personal music preferences span multiple genres. As for the DVDs and blu-rays available at Music Magick, those range from popular flicks and old favorites to more obscure, unfamiliar films, as well as TV series box sets. “We’ve got all genres,” Ciora said, “from documentaries to horror movies.” Ciora has kept pricing at his store simple and affordable. Customers can purchase one item for $3, or are welcome to mix and match two for $5 or five for $10. And everything is guaranteed, he said, so if a disk skips or has some other problem, he’s happy to take it back. “It’s not all about making money,” he said. “I love to help the public, and I think I’m providing a good service to people.” Those with DVDs and CDs to get rid of are also invited to sell them to Ciora. Since opening in September, Ciora has been greeted by people who are thrilled for a place like this to have opened — these kinds of brick-and-mortar shops are few and far between these days, and shoppers have made trips to browse his selection from as far away as Plymouth, Massachusetts. “There are a lot of people out there who still collect this stuff,” he said. And Ciora is pleased to be able to supply the goods. “When they come in, their eyes light up,” he continued. “You can see it.”
